Man arrested following double stabbing in Las Vegas
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A man has been charged with murder and attempted murder following a double stabbing in Las Vegas.
On April 17, Las Vegas police received several 911 calls about two men being stabbed at 2305 Exeter Drive, near Carey Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard.
One of the callers was Calvin Beasley who said he had been stabbed.
When officers arrived, they found Beasley and Jeffree Bender suffering from stab wounds. Both were transported to UMC.
Bender died from his injuries. Beasley had surgery and survived.
Beasley told police he was sitting outside at an apartment complex, when he heard Bender yell for help. Beasley said he saw five men beating up Bender, who was on the ground.
Beasley said he went over to help and was then stabbed by one of the suspects. He said he didn't know the suspect, but believed he could identify him.
Later in the interview, he told police the suspect was the husband or boyfriend of a female who lives in the apartment complex. He said he could find his photo on Facebook. He used his cell phone to find the woman's profile, and then showed police a photo of the suspect, who was later identified as John Russell.
Beasley then identified Russell in an official photo lineup.
He said he was reluctant in the beginning of the interview to name the suspect, as he was concerned Russell would harm him.
The police report does not state what led to the initial stabbing and fight.
