Letter sent home to parents about apparent attempted kidnapping

By Spencer Lubitz. CREATED Apr 4, 2014

North Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Disturbing reports of a possible attempted abduction near a local school are being investigated.

A letter went out this week to parents with students at Richard Priest Elementary School, who are understandably on edge about the situation.

Action News spoke with the girl who said she was the intended victim of the attempted kidnapping. She said she got out of school a few minutes early and was walking in front of the campus, when she saw an adult stranger running at her.

"When I walking, there was nobody around. He parked on the other side of the street and he ran across the street and he tried to grab me. The second time I pulled back, it didn't work. He started grabbing me tighter. The second time I pulled back, he scratched me," said the student.

10-year-old Tadasia said she was able to make it a few blocks away from the school, before she ran into friends of her older sister. Those friends were able to contact her parents, and they filed a report with North Las Vegas police.

Tadasia describes the man as an older white male in his 50s. She said he was driving a white minivan.

North Las Vegas police said they are investigating the validity of the girl's claims, and are labeling the situation as an attempted kidnapping.
