Las Vegas police grieving loss of officers, continuing to investigate shootings

By Joyce Lupiani. CREATED Jun 9, 2014

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Local police officers are grieving this morning after the shooting of two of their own late Sunday morning, but they are also investigating.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is on high alert and the department is trying to establish whether or not there is a viable threat to their safety right now in the Las Vegas valley.

All patrol officers are now riding with partners and the officers are being extra cautious as they make their rounds.

Flags have been lowered to half staff at all city of Las Vegas facilities at the request of Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman.

A press conference is supposed to take place Monday morning.

Alyn Beck, 41, and Igor Soldo, 31, were eating lunch at Cici's Pizza between 11 a.m. and noon Sunday morning when a man and woman walked in shortly before 11:30 a.m. and shot the two officers.

The man and woman then fled to a nearby Walmart where they shot and killed an innocent bystander. After exchanging gunfire with police, the couple then killed themselves.

A search was conducted late Sunday night at an apartment near downtown Las Vegas. According to a resident at the same apartment complex, the apartment was occupied by the couple who shot the Las Vegas police officers.

The neighbor described the couple as "crazy" and said they would talk about killing police officers and etc.

A community vigil is being planned for the fallen police officers at 6 p.m. Monday on the corner of Nellis Boulevard and Stewart Avenue.
