Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas police were called to the scene of a two-vehicle fatal crash on Tuesday.
It happened around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Alta Drive and Hualapai Way.
Witness statements and evidence at the scene indicated a 1998 Dodge Durango was traveling southbound on Hualapai, across the intersection of Alta. A 2003 Hyundai Elantra was turning left onto westbound Alta from Hualapai.
The Durango then struck the right side of the Elantra.
The front passenger of the Elantra, 75-year-old Cho Cha McGuffin of Las Vegas, was transported to UMC Trauma but was later pronounced dead by medical personnel. The driver of the Elantra, the victim's husband, had moderate injuries.
The driver of the Durango had minor injuries. Police believe that person ran a red light, but it's unclear whether they will face charges.
"We don't have any reason why they would have ran a red light. The vehicle that was with them saw the light was red and they were stopped, so we're scratching our heads again. May have been distracted," said Sgt. Richard Strader.
This was the 9th traffic-related fatality in Las Vegas so far this year.
