Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas police are investigating an incident where an officer was struck by a vehicle.
At approximately 6 p.m. on Thursday, an officer was struck at the intersection of South Eastern Avenue and East Windmill Lane while clearing a traffic accident.
Police said the driver had a blank look in his eyes, as if he was impaired. Police believe the driver intentionally hit the officer, but the officer latched onto the car and was able to roll off into the roadway.
The officer was transported to University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said the driver proceeded to travel westbound on Windmill, where he crashed into another car at the intersection of Spencer Street.
Richard Trajano stopped to help the woman who was inside that car, "I ran over to assist as much as I could. When I came over to her vehicle, she was in tears and in pain. I tried to help her. I tried to calm her down." Police said she sustained minor injuries.
Witness Russell Meine said two men got out of the suspected hit-and-run car and then hopped over a wall. He told Action News, "I immediately called 911 and drove over to the subdivision [where] I saw them jump into and I saw one of the guys speed walking down the sidewalk."
Police said the passenger of the hit-and-run car was quickly caught. Police spent several hours looking for the driver, who was reportedly taken into custody at around 10:30 p.m.
