Las Vegas lawyer to seek Nevada Assembly seat
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Las Vegas attorney Erven Nelson is announcing his Republican candidacy for the Nevada Assembly.
Nelson is a partner in the Durham, Jones & Pinegar law firm, where he specializes in real estate and business law.
He plans to seek the District 5 seat being vacated by Democratic Assemblywoman Marilyn Dondero Loop, who is running for the state Senate.
Registered nurse and union supporter Jerri Strasser earlier announced her intent to run for the seat on the Democratic side.
Nelson grew up in Las Vegas and has spent most of his life there. He says his priorities are improving the state's public education and providing a stable tax environment.
