Kidnapping victim speaks out to Action News about being held for six months

By Jacqui Heinrich. CREATED Jan 14, 2014

Mesquite, NV (KTNV) -- The woman held captive at a Mesquite motel for six months, shared her story with Action News on Tuesday.

She said she was held against her will, and endured repeated beatings.

Sheena Herschbach said it was a news story she watched in that single-room motel suite that made her finally reach out for help.

It was on Friday when reports surfaced of a man killing his wife for trying to leave him. For Sheena, that was when she decided she had to escape.

"He threatened to kill me if I left him, so I didn't know what else to do. I was scared," said Sheena.

She said she had twice gone to police to report abuse from Jason Greniger in the past.

She even got two restraining orders against him starting in 2012, and despite that, she said he tracked her down in California where he forced her into a car, driving to Mesquite.

Having little faith law enforcement would protect her, Sheena said when she got the chance, she turned to family, running to a local library to write to a sister over Facebook.

"I was supposed to go get beer, and I said, 'Heck with it,' and walked over to the library. He wasn't looking, thank God," Sheena explained.

When police arrested Greniger, Sheena learned six months had gone by.

During that time, her mother had passed away from cancer, "I wanted to be there by her side. I wanted to help her, but I wasn't able to."

Greniger is currently on a fugitive hold out of Minnesota and faces second degree kidnapping charges.
