Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A local Little League team is out more than $2,000 after thieves busted into part of the sports complex, and the timing couldn't be worse.
Less than 24 hours before they host their annual Labor Day club ball tournament, the Peccole Little League team is scrambling to replace more than $800 worth of food and a $1,500 snow cone machine after someone looted their snack shack.
It's the way they make money to keep enrollment costs low, selling food at the event each summer to offset field fees. Now, whoever did it has both parents and kids in disbelief.
"I don't know why someone would do that, it's cruel," said Gage Gomez, a 9-year-old with the team.
It must have taken the crook quite a while to break off the solid iron door latch and padlock, meaning they were determined to get to the goods inside.
"All of our hamburgers, corn dogs, hot dogs, cheese, condiments, it was all taken," said Krista Blanchard, President of Peccole Little League. "Mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard packets were scattered all over the floor and boxes were just strewn everywhere."
The thieves left behind the expensive grill, pitching machines, and baseball equipment, but they apparently had a thing for macaroni and cheese because they cleaned house on that product.
"I'm going to be searching social media to see who's having a big barbecue with snow cone machines this weekend," Blanchard said.
As if stealing candy from children wasn't bad enough, now the parents are going to have to foot the bill. They're having to replace all the stolen food in time for this weekend's tournament, and also explain to their kids that there is a thief on the field.
"Mind blown," Gomez said. "I'm just thinking, why would someone do that?"
Little League parents say this isn't the first time they've been violated at Red Ridge Park; some cars were broken into earlier this summer as well.
League officials are offering a reward to anyone who has information that leads to the recovery of the stolen items or an arrest. Metro police are investigating the matter.
