Homeowners fed up with flooding confront county officials

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Angry homeowners faced county officials at Desert Breeze Community Center Thursday night. They are fed up with flooding in their neighborhoods.

They live in Rural Neighborhood Preservation (RNP) areas.

Monday's flooding at Sahara and Jones showed the downside of living in an RNP.

Some property owners get slammed every time it rains. But county officials said that's the cost of what the property owners asked for.

"Their standards were, no curbs and gutters, and no sidewalks and no lighting. So we complied with that because we felt that they had a right to those decisions," said County Commissioner Susan Brager.

County officials said residents can either maintain their rural lifestyle, or they can set up a Special Improvement District (SID) and pay for improvements themselves.
