Henderson, NV (KTNV) -- Henderson police were involved in a deadly incident early Tuesday morning in the area of Boulder Highway and Horizon Drive.
The incident happened at about 3:30 a.m.
According to a spokesperson for the City of Henderson, two Henderson police officers attempted to stop a suspicious-looking man on a bicycle outside of a local 7-Eleven.
The officers and 51-year-old Jesse Vigel got into a confrontation and the Vigel stabbed one of the officers twice in the hip and thigh area. Both officers then opened fire and killed him.
"Once the officers were able to separate from the suspect, they fired on the suspect, killing him," said Kathleen Richards, Henderson spokeswoman.
The police officer was transported to Sunrise Hospital, but has since been released.
This is the second time a Henderson police officer has been injured during a confrontation with a suspect this year.
A Henderson police officer was shot on June 11 after responding to a call about shots fired in a residential neighborhood. The officer was shot in the hip and survived.
The man who shot the officer was killed.
