Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Former Nevada Congresswoman Shelley Berkley has been appointed CEO and Senior Provost of Touro College and University System's western division.
Berkley will take the helm of both the Nevada and California campuses, according to their press release.
The formal announcement will be made during a press conference today at the Touro University Nevada campus in Henderson.
Berkley was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1998 and represented Nevada's first Congressional district from 1999 to 2013.
Prior to her election to Congress, she served as a member of the Board of Regents for Nevada State System of Higher Education.
Berkley is a 50-year resident of Nevada. She graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a degree in political science and received her juris doctorate from the University of San Diego, School of Law.
She is replacing Dr. Michael Harter beginning in January.
Touro College was chartered in 1970. Approximately 19,000 students are currently enrolled in its various schools and divisions.
