Former assemblyman set for sentencing

Victorville, CA (KTNV) -- Former Nevada State Assemblyman Steven Brooks is expected to learn his fate Friday in California court.

Brooks is scheduled to be sentenced at 8:30 a.m. Friday on felony charges of evading an officer and resisting arrest.

As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dropped charges of throwing a substance at a police car and harming a police K-9.

The former assemblyman pleaded no contest to the charges in San Bernadino County Court earlier this year.

It all stems from a high speed chase along Interstate 15 back in March of 2013. That chase took place just hours after Brooks was kicked out of the Nevada State Assembly following a pair of arrests and a mental health evaluation.

Brooks could face up to two years in jail on those charges.

Brooks is still facing legal problems in Nevada as well. A misdemeanor case for domestic violence is still pending in Clark County Court.
