First Friday returning to its art roots for month of August
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- First Friday is returning to its roots this month.
This month's theme is "antARTica." A giant art installation with replicas of glaciers and penguins will be featured on Casino Center between Charleston Boulevard and Colorado Avenue.
The food trucks and vendors will still be there but in a slightly different location.
More than 75 vendors and 20 food trucks will be located in "The City of the World" at The Arts Factory just north of Charleston.
Life Is Beautiful, the downtown music, food and art festival, will present five music stages north of Charleston.
First Friday is encouraging attendees to attend galleries such as Blackbird Studios, Brett Wesley Gallery, Contemporary Arts Center and Trifecta Studios.
First Friday managing partner Joey Vanas says that they are very excited about the different format this month that will give the "incredible restaurants, shops, galleries and bars of 18b a greater chance to be explored."
First Friday began 10 years ago. In the beginning, the focus was on the art that was displayed by various galleries in the area.
In the years since it began, the monthly event's focus has shifted towards entertainment and food. In addition, independent artists began displaying their works in tents.
Organizers are now trying to shift the focus back to artists in the downtown area. At least for one month.
The giant "antARTica" display will also be interactive and guided tours of the display will be offered.
First Friday takes place from 5 to 11 p.m. For more information, click here.
