Henderson, NV (KTNV) -- Ethel M Chocolates will be throwing the switch Tuesday evening on its annual holiday display.
This is the 20th year that Ethel M has lighted its cactus garden for the holidays and Steve Bowdoin, garden caretaker, gave Action News a tour.
The garden will be lit every night from sundown until 10 p.m. until the end of the year.
Tuesday's event is only for VIPs.
The general public can pick up a family four-pack of tickets for the VIP event in exchange for one new, unwrapped toy. Collected toys will be donated to HELP of Southern Nevada. Tickets must be presented at the door for entry.
Comedian George Wallace, Las Vegas entertainers MO5AIC and Michael Grimm, former Las Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman and local school choirs will help kick off the holiday season.
The garden will open to the general public on Wednesday.
All visitors to the garden will receive free 3D glasses that will transform a portion of the lights into what looks like twinkling, falling snowflakes.
The holiday display attracts about 700,000 visitors each year with 100,000 of those during the holiday season.
The display features more than 500,000 lights, which equals 12 miles of light strings and chords. Four people work for six weeks to string the lights.
Bowdoin said stringing lights on a cactus is not like stringing lights on a tree because of open gaps. You just have to keep stringing them around the pads until you get a really cool geometric shape.
Another tip from Bowdoin involved removing cactus needles. He said that duct tape is the best method for removal.
