Convicted child killer caught; was on lam since 06

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Nevada officials say they've arrested a convicted child killer who's been avoiding parole officers since 2006.

The state Division of Parole & Probation announced Wednesday they'd caught up with 59-year-old Eric William Zessman in Las Vegas. He was arrested after jumping over walls in an attempt to flee officers, and was booked in jail Monday night on parole violations.

State officials say Zessman was convicted of 2nd degree murder in 1976, after his 6-month-old son was found starved to death in a car parked near a Carson City casino.

Zessman was first paroled in 1981, and became a fugitive or committed new crimes during each of his six releases.

Authorities say they were tipped off to Zessman's whereabouts when a caller reported he was abusing an elderly woman.
