Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- There will be a lot of crashes and bangs happening at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway this week.

But all of the collisions are planned, and they're to help law enforcement officers better investigate real-life crashes.

It's all taking place at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway where the annual ARC-CSI Crash Conference is going on.

This is the 13th year of the conference that attracts hundreds in law enforcement each year. It runs through Thursday.

Monday kicked off the event with nine crashes.

For the first crash, the vehicle was traveling 35 miles an hour, and it was hooked up with sensors so participants can review the data later.

It's planned crashes like that, which provide training opportunities that aren't available anywhere else. That's why crash scene investigators and other law enforcement agencies come out every year, to get hands-on training.

"They're learning how to provide the most accurate opinions, the most accurate facts possible from a traffic collision," said Chief Tim Saab, Glendora Police.

The following days will feature presentations from leaders in the industry. People come from all over the country for this event, and countries like Japan and Taiwan.

They're expecting 200 participants this year.
