Authorities in Marin County, California, are investigating the death of actor Robin Williams.

On Monday at approximately 11:55 a.m., Marin County Communications received a 911 call reporting a man had been located unconscious and not breathing inside his home in Tiburon, California.

The man was pronounced dead and has been identified as 63-year-old Williams.

An investigation into the cause, manner and circumstances of the death is currently underway by the Investigations and Coroner Divisions of the Sheriff's Office.

Preliminary information developed during the investigation indicated Williams was last seen alive at his home, where he resides with his wife, at approximately 10 p.m. on Sunday.

At this time, authorities suspect the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made.

A forensic examination is scheduled for Tuesday with subsequent toxicology testing to be conducted.

The following statements were posted on Twitter:

Williams rose to fame as "Mork," a bizarre, suspenders-wearing alien in the sitcom "Mork & Mindy." He was once dubbed the funniest man alive by Entertainment Weekly.

It was reported in April that FOX 2000 was developing a sequel to William's 1993 hit movie "Mrs. Doubtfire."

He was also known for his more serious roles though and earned an Oscar for his performance in "Good Will Hunting" in 1997.

In July, word got out that Williams had checked himself into a rehabilitation facility to recharge after working 18 months on back-to-back projects.

Williams posted this photo on Instagram a couple of weeks ago on Throwback Thursday to wish his daughter a happy 25th birthday.
