Burglary suspect in custody after security video goes viral
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A burglary suspect is now in custody after a social media post goes viral, generating tips to Las Vegas police.
On Aug. 29 around 3:40 p.m., police responded to the 2000 block of Tanner Valley Circle to investigate a residential burglary.
The investigation revealed the suspect, 23-year-old Austin Jones of Las Vegas, had forcibly entered the residence earlier that day and took numerous items.
Police also learned the homeowner had a surveillance system which captured portions of the crime. He had posted portions of the video on Facebook, which prompted numerous calls to police.
The tips significantly aided in this investigation.
On Saturday, Aug. 31, investigators contacted Jones by telephone. Jones indicated his desire to surrender to authorities and later that day he was taken into custody without incident.
Jones has been booked and charged with burglary and violation of the condition of a suspended sentence.
