Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Arson was the cause of a fire this morning at a home on Carmen Boulevard, near Jones Boulevard and Vegas Drive.
According to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, a 911 call was received by police at about 4:40 a.m. about a prowler at the home.
Upon arrival, police saw smoke and called Las Vegas Fire & Rescue. In the meantime, police officers pried open the front door of the residence and assisted two elderly women from the home.
"It's devastating," homeowner Carol Bell said. "Everything else is replaceable, but a life isn't."
The officers were unable to douse the fire, but Las Vegas Fire & Rescue put the fire out in two minutes after they arrived.
The fire gutted the bedroom and caused slight smoke damage to the rest of the home. Damage was estimated at $25,000.
The police believe the fire was arson and a result of a domestic dispute between the man and the younger woman that was staying in the home. They are currently attempting to locate the man.
"What kind of person would do something like this," Bell said. "They don't know if kids are in the house."
The two elderly women were treated for slight smoke inhalation at the scene. No one else was injured.
