Animal Foundation at dog capacity, offering adoption deals

The Animal Foundation has reached dog capacity at its adoption centers and will be forced to make euthanasia decisions to create space for new animals entering its care if adopters are not quickly found.

Beginning Aug. 2 through Aug. 10, adoption fees for Pit Bulls and Chihuahuas, the two breeds at greatest risk for humane euthanasia, will be reduced to just $40 during The Animal Foundation's #BeAHeroWeek.

The Animal Foundation currently has more than 130 Pit Bulls and more than 50 Chihuahuas available for adoption. The nonprofit's goal is to find loving, forever homes for 100 Pit Bulls and all of the Chihuahuas during #BeAHeroWeek. Finding homes for these harder-to-place breeds will free up adequate room for the staggering numbers of pets the organization anticipates entering its care over the next several weeks.

Discounted adoption fees include spay/neuter surgery, microchip, uptodate vaccines, and more. An additional $10 city license fee may apply.

#BeAHeroWeek is valid Aug. 2-10 at The Animal Foundation's adoption centers:

- Campus Adoption Center: 655 N. Mojave Road in Las Vegas
- PetSmart Charities Everyday Adoption Center: 286 W. Lake Mead Parkway in Henderson
