Police release info about man arrested for child abuse

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas police have released the name and mug shot of the man that was arrested on Thursday for abusing a young child.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, patrol officers were dispatched to Sunrise Trauma Center after medical personnel reported a baby had been transported with critical injuries.

Medical personnel believe that the child had been abused. During examination, medical personnel found a large subdural hematoma, multiple rib fractures in various stages of healing, bruising, and very small puncture marks.

An investigation was initiated by the Abuse/Neglect Detail. Officers interviewed the child's mother who told them that she left her 5-month-old son with her roommate, 31-year-old Anthony Casey.

According to the mother, she received a message from Casey at about 2:45 p.m. on Thursday that her child was acting weird and needed to come home. He also told her that he may have caused a bruse to the child's face because he almost dropped him when he allegedly went limp in his arms.

The mother told Casey to call 911. After paramedicas arrived, Casey told the mother that he thought the paramedics thought he hurt the child and that he was not going to answer the door for anyone.

Next, officers contacted Casey at his home in the 5200 block of Souvenir Lane. But, there was no answer at the door.

Based on Casey's past criminal record, which includes obstructing a police officer with a deadly weapon, the police applied for a search warrant.

After the warrant was obtained, officers again attempted to contact Casey. When he did not exit, SWAT officers deployed flash bangs outside the residence. At that time, Casey exited the home.

Casey denied during an interview that he had harmed the child and said that he was not really bonded with the young boy.

Casey was transported to Clark County Detention Center. He is being charged with one count of child abuse/neglect with substantial bodily harm and one count of child abuse/neglect.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 702-828-3364 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
