Marriage rates on decline in United States
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- It is June and that means it is wedding season but fewer American are getting married these days.
A USA Today article claims that marriage rates are at an historic low here in the United States.
A lot of people come from all over the world to Las Vegas to tie the knot.
According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, an average of 315 weddings are performed each day in Las Vegas.
That is nearly 9,000 per month and 115,000 a year.
The USA Today article claims that the poor economy, unemployment and an increase in couples living together have led to a decline in marriage rates.
The article says that the number of marriages across the U.S. fell more than five percent during the recession but they say that there is a pent-up demand among marriage-eligible people between the ages of 18 and 34.
Therefore, there should be a rise in the number of marriages over the next two years.
That would be good news for Las Vegas which is home to more than 50 wedding chapels.
Also, according to the LVCVA, 90 percent of all people who get marriage in Nevada come from other states.
