Vegas-area building permit amnesty ending Friday

CREATED May 30, 2013

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Southern Nevada homeowners who've remodeled, upgraded or expanded their houses have one more day of amnesty to apply for after-the-fact permits for residential construction work.

Officials say Friday is the last day to pay permit fees while avoiding penalties for self-disclosed work.

Clark County and the cities of Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Mesquite and Boulder City are taking part.

Homeowners will still have to pay normal permit, inspection and plan review fees.

Those can range from $60 to more than $400, depending on the project.

The program applies to things like room additions, garage conversions, kitchen or bathroom remodeling, patio covers and fences, electrical and plumbing work, and hot water heater installations.

Amnesty applicants also have to take watch a five-minute educational session about the building permit process.
