Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Crews with Las Vegas Fire & Rescue were called to the scene of an apartment fire Saturday morning.

A toddler and a woman were treated for minor burns after the apartment caught fire.

Two people are displaced because of the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting.

It happened around 10 a.m. on Cedar Avenue, near Eastern Avenue and I-515 in a two-story apartment building.

When firefighters arrived, heavy flames were showing on the outside of the building. All 24 units were evacuated.

The main portion of the fire was in the front of four apartments that were situated in the center of the building.

The fire was on the outside of the building on the patio/balcony of each unit. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from entering any of the apartments.

The balcony/patio area of all four apartments was destroyed. The outside of the building had damage; the inside of the apartments had light to heavy smoke damage. Damage was estimated at $100,000.

The occupant of the apartment where the fire started told fire investigators that a domestic dispute erupted between her and her husband, who does not live there.

Outside on the patio, several pieces of furniture and items were stacked that used to be inside the apartment. The woman told investigators she saw her husband light a mattress on fire with a lighter, but then quickly put it out. A few minutes later, when she looked outside all the contents were on fire.

Neighbors said they heard a verbal exchange between the man and woman just prior to the fire. The man was seen outside by the pile of furniture, then seen walking away, just before it caught fire.

The toddler was burned on her forearm as an ember fell on it as she was waiting in the parking lot after being evacuated.

Another woman was treated for first degree burns on her arms from when she was leaving her apartment. Flames were so intense the heat caused her arms to burn.

Fire investigators are looking for the man, to get his side of the story as part of the investigation. Las Vegas police are assisting with the search.
