Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Key Largo Casino was supposed to be demolished this week after a devastating fire last month.

Clark County ordered the owners of the building to obtain a demolition permit on or before April 12 and complete the demolition by April 26.

The fire heavily damaged the shuttered casino on March 28

Investigators surveyed the scene and determined it to be unsafe and in a state of disrepair, prompting the orders from the county.

The demolition could now be delayed though because asbestos may need to be removed and because of the expense involved with the demolition.

Clark County's Director of Development Services Ron Lynn said, "Demolition has commenced. Large scale demolition will await the successful bidder and, of course, obtaining the permits."

Meanwhile, security fencing has been installed around the property to prevent the homeless from moving back in.

Key Largo Casino was built in 1974 and shut down in 2005.

Ownership is listed as Flamingo 2005 LLC.
