North Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- North Las Vegas Mayor-elect John Lee says he knows he faces numerous challenges, but he's excited about the opportunity to serve his community.

"We are in a trend, we're trending up, the region has been pulling out," he said. "I think North Las Vegas has a shot with the right leadership to pull out with it."

The mayor-elect said he has already been in touch with the city manager. A budget assessment is underway, so he can fully understand where the city has been and how he can make changes.

"Things we can prioritize differently than what they were doing then," he said. "I'm looking to do a lot of economic development in the community to attract people back to North Las Vegas."

In Tuesday's primary election, Lee won with 53.6-percent of the vote; current mayor Shari Buck received 35.5-percent of the vote.

According to City of North Las Vegas officials, if one candidate receives more than 50-percent of the vote during the Primary Election, that person will be declared elected and no general city election will take place.

Lee will take office on July 1.
