Man accused of killing 15-year-old Alyssa Otremba due in court
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The man accused in a brutal murder of a 15-year-old girl in 2011 in northwest Las Vegas is scheduled to appear in court this morning.
Police say Javier Righetti raped and stabbed Alyssa Otremba and then set her body on fire.
Her body was found near a tunnel in the desert in September 2011.
Detectives say that Righetti later confessed to stabbing the teenager more than 80 times and then burned her body in an attempt to conceal the evidence.
Righetti has pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping, rape and murder.
Righetti was 19 at the time of the murder.
He was also charged with a prior attack in March of 2011. That girls was also allegedly raped and strangled but was able to escape.
Righetti is facing the death penalty.
He is due in court this morning for a status check.
