Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A Valley family is turning tragedy into celebration this Easter weekend.

The Portaro family's son was murdered exactly two years ago; then months later they lost their daughter.

On Saturday, they gathered with friends and family at the Tenaya Creek Brewery to celebrate both lives. Mike Portaro was shot and killed in that parking lot.

Mike's parents, Richard and Cynthia, lost their 22-year-old son, "We don't feel the agony that we did but it's still painful."

The celebration of life wasn't just for Mike. It was also for their daughter Christina, who died less than a year later in an ATV accident in Utah.

"It's been a journey. It's been rough getting through something you'll never get over," said Cynthia.

Part of the journey has been the court case against the man accused of killing their son, 22-year-old Brandon Hill.

Police said they have Hill's DNA from a cigarette they believe he threw away before the shooting. His trial is set for this summer.

Mike was in the parking lot selling tickets for his group's upcoming hip-hip show.

Living their lives is what Richard and Cynthia have been doing. Cynthia left Las Vegas and is starting an anti-bullying foundation.

The couple will also be rooting for their other son who is an athlete at UNLV, "We are really excited our son Joseph is back on the UNLV football team."

Friends and family released balloons on Saturday, in honor of Mike and Christina.
