Nevada Assembly votes to oust embattled Steven Brooks

Carson City, NV (KTNV) -- Steven Brooks is no longer a state assemblyman.

Brooks is the first Nevada state lawmaker to ever be removed from office by his colleagues.

Many of them fought back tears on Thursday as they cast their votes to remove him from office.

Assembly speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick was noticeably shaken during the procedure.

Majority Leader William Horne said they ultimately came to the decision to expel Brooks because they believed that he was a danger to both himself and to others.

Brooks has been arrested twice since January. He is also accused of making threats toward his colleagues, including Kirkpatrick.

The vote on Thursday came after an independent investigation. The results of that investigation was presented to a special bipartisan committee.

That committee voted 6-to-1 for the expulsion.
