Mesquite shooting suspect and passenger in car identified

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Mesquite Police Department has identified both suspects in the shooting involving a Mesquite police officer on March 21.
They have been identified as 40-year-old Daniel Wesley Runyon of Richfield, Utah, and 48-year-old Tina Cornell of St. George, Utah.
Mesquite police officer Craig Empey encountered Runyon and Cornell during a traffic stop.
After pulling their car over, Runyon allegedly pulled a gun and fired at the officer. Empey returned fire and hit Runyon twice.
Runyon is being charged with two counts of assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon, trafficking a controlled substance (methamphetamine), conspiracy to violate the uniform controlled substance act, ex-felon in possession of a firearm and more.
Runyon is currently in stable condition at University Medical Center.
Cornell is also being charged with trafficking a controlled substance (methamphetamine), conspiracy to violate the uniform controlled substance act, possession of drug paraphernalia, and transporting a controlled substance.
Cornell is currently being held in the Clark County Detention Center.
Officer Empey was treated at Mesa View Regional Hospital in Mesquite.
