HOA residents concerned over trash bin proposal

HOA residents concerned over trash bin proposal

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- As more of those 96-gallon trash bins show up around the valley, state lawmakers will consider a new bill to require homeowners associations to let residents store them outside.  But, some residents fear the language in the bill will leave them open to home owner association fines.

If it's passed, residents will get to leave those big bulky bins outside, but still gives HOAs the right to require the bins be kept hidden from the view on the street, leaving many residents wondering where they should stash their trash.

“We can't put them on the side of our house because they're not supposed to be visible to the neighbors, so we use plastic bags,” says Sun City Summerlin resident Bob Roby.

Roby says once he gets the new trash bins he'll have to keep them out of plain sight of his neighbors. But he said he doesn't want to keep his trash locked up in garage for a week. So he'll have to build an entirely new structure to hide the new bins.

“It's putting an unnecessary burden, an unnecessary cost and it is a totally ridiculous proposition,” Roby said.

The proposed bill hasn't yet come up for discussion.

The organization that oversees all the HOA’s say they have no stance on this issue.
