Mourners gather to say good-bye to Hugo Chavez

CREATED Mar 8, 2013

(KTNV) -- Thousands of mourners are gathering this morning to say good-bye to their leader Hugo Chavez.

More than thirty heads of government will be in Venezuela today for the state funeral.

Two lawmakers from the United States will represent our country at today's services.

Chavez died Tuesday after a long battle with cancer. It's not the last time his loyal followers will see him.

His embalmed body will be permanently displayed in a glass casket at a military museum just miles from where he ruled 14 years.

But first, 58-year-old dictator's body will lie in state for at least another seven days.

Tonight, Vice President Nicolas Maduro will be sworn in as acting president. An election for the new president will be announced with the next 30 days.
