Striking taxicab drivers meeting with mediators

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Taxicab drivers in Las Vegas have been out on the Las Vegas Strip since last weekend calling out their company, Yellow-Checker-Star Taxi Cab Corporations.

But now, a deal could be close at hand.

The drivers say they want better hours and pay. The strike happened after a contract proposed by the company was rejected by 70 percent of its members.

But, they will sit down with federal mediators Wednesday morning and that could be the first step towards ending the strike and putting drivers back to work.

So far, neither side has been willing to budge.

The strike began at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, March 3. About 1,000 members of the Industrial Technical Professional Employees Union Local 4873 joined the strike.
