Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Emily Kay, age 3, was killed when an SUV struck the car her father was driving.

The accident happened on Jan. 14 at Eastern Avenue and Pebble Road. Investigators believe the SUV turned when it shouldn't have at a flashing yellow light.

Doctors say Emily died on impact. Her father, Casey Barringer, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The woman driving the SUV suffered minor injuries.

"All I remember is that everything went black," Casey says. "Then I woke up in an ambulance and kept asking where Emily was."

Casey suffered a brain hemorrhage, broke both his legs, and shattered an ankle. He underwent surgery to replace his femurs with metal rods. Doctors say he won't be able to walk again for at least another six months.  But the pain of his physical injuries pales in comparison to losing Emily.

"You never think that in a split second, your child could be taken away," he says. "My biggest fear is that she suffered. As a parent, you can't help but blame yourself. If only I would have taken a different route that day. She was such a beautiful, loving child. I miss her every second."

More than anything, Casey wants this accident to show how one bad decision while behind the wheel can ruin lives.

On Monday, all Chili's Restaurants in the valley donated 15% of sales to Casey. Before the accident, he worked at the Chili's on Rainbow, near the 215. Doctors aren't sure when he'll be able to return to work.
