Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A 44-year old concrete truck driver, from Las Vegas, is dead after a crash on Summerlin Parkway Wednesday afternoon.
A Nevada Highway Patrol spokesperson said a concrete truck was heading westbound on Summerlin Parkway at about 1:15 p.m. when it veered over the median and into oncoming traffic, colliding with a Metro police truck.
The concrete truck then careened into an embankment, about 20 feet below the roadway.
Firefighters said a civilian tried to rescue the driver of the concrete truck, but it was too late. The driver was declared dead at the scene.
The two officers inside the Metro pickup truck were hospitalized with minor injuries.
Authorities shut down eastbound Summerlin Parkway from Anasazi to Town Center Drive to traffic.
The closure is expected to delay traffic for several hours in the area.
The Nevada Highway Patrol is taking the lead on the investigation into what caused the crash.
The driver of the concrete truck has not yet been identified.
