Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A woman diagnosed with autism will compete in Miss America for the first time in the competition's history this year.

Miss Montana, 18-year-old Alexis Wiseman, was diagnosed with autism when she was 11.

Wiseman says she overcame obstacles with her speech and social interactions to make it all the way to the Miss America competition.

"The girl you're seeing right now is not the girl you would have seen 10 years ago," Wiseman told ABC News.

Wiseman recently graduated high school and plans to attend the University of Montana.

The Miss America competition airs on ABC this Saturday night.
