(KTNV) -- Veterans Day is an official United States holiday honoring armed service veterans. It is observed each year on Nov. 11 and coincides with other holidays such as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day.


The following will be closed Monday:

-- All federal government offices
-- All state government offices
-- United States Postal Service
-- All county government offices
-- Las Vegas municipal offices
-- Clark County Courts
-- Las Vegas Parks and Recreation's pools and community centers
-- North Las Vegas municipal offices
-- North Las Vegas Parks and Recreations' community centers
-- Henderson municipal offices
-- Henderson Parks and Recreation's community centers
-- Boulder City municipal offices
-- Boulder City Parks and Recreation center
-- All libraries in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson & Boulder City
-- Clark County School District

Several events take place to honor veterans both on Nov. 11 and the days preceding it in the Las Vegas valley. Also, a variety of businesses offer special deals or discounts for current and former members of the military.

Some of those events and deals are listed below:

When: 10 a.m. Nov. 11
Where: Downtown Las Vegas, 4th and Gass Street
What: The annual Las Vegas Veterans Day Parade will start at 10 a.m. Nov. 11 at the intersection of 4th and Gass Street. The parade features bands, floats, community organizations, veterans groups, active military members, schools and more.


When: Gates open at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 10-11
Where: Nellis Air Force Base
Admission: Free
What: The annual open house at NAFB will feature flying demonstrations and more than 100 airplanes on display.

When: Nov. 11
Where: All Las Vegas Sports Clips locations
What: Sports Clips Haircuts will host its annual Veterans Day Cut-A-Thon on Nov. 11. Sports Clips will donate $1 per haircut service to "help A Hero," which supports the Veterans of Foreign Wars Operation Uplink.

In addition, Sports Clips will provide free haircuts to active duty service members and veterans, with valid proof of service.

When: Nov. 2-11, 24 hours per day
Where: Fiesta Henderson, 777 W. Lake Mead Parkway
What: Fiesta Henderson is paying respect to veterans for Veterans Day this year by giving the public an opportunity to offer support and appreciation by signing a special banner located adjacent to Festival Buffet on the second level of the property. The “signing wall” will be presented to the VFW Post 3848 on November 12, so it may be enjoyed by those who served our country on the eve of and during the holiday. Post 3848 is the chosen recipient because it is located down the street from Fiesta Henderson, which fulfills the property’s goal of serving its community.


When: Nov. 9-11
Where: Event lot between River Palms and Golden Nugget, Laughlin, NV
What: Events will include a motorcycle show and shine, live entertainment, food and beverage vendors, military displays, an interactive vendor area and marketplace and a special Veterans Memorial ceremony.  Country performer and veteran Rockie Lynne will headline with performances on Friday and Saturday evenings. Additional citywide events include the Smoke on the Water BBQ & Music Festival at Don Laughlin's Riverside Resort, Rogue Warrior MMA fights at Colorado Belle, the Golden Nugget Laughlin's 25th Annual FastPast classic car show and Lee Greenwood appearing at Harrah's Laughlin.

When: Nov. 8-11
Where: Fiesta Rancho SoBe Ice Arena
Admission: Free
What: The puck will drop during Veterans Day weekend at Fiesta Rancho’s SoBe Ice Arena for the 10th annual Armed Services Hockey Association (ASHA) Hockey Classic called “Hockey for Heroes.” 22 teams from around the world that are comprised of members of the military, police and fire will compete nearly 24 hours daily over four days.

Admission: Free
What: The public is invited to watch a softball game between the Wounder Warrior Amputee softball team and Sun City softball team. First game is at 11 a.m. Second game is at 1:30 p.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.


When: 7:11 a.m. Nov. 11
Where: Premium Outlets, Las Vegas Boulevard South
What: The 2nd annual Las Vegas National Veterans Day Run will start and end at the Premium Outlets on Las Vegas Boulevard South. The race will offer two distances -- 11K and a 1-mile charity walk for veterans.

When: 1:30 p.m. Nov. 11
Where: Southern Nevada Veterans Home, 100 Veterans Memorial Highway, Boulder City
What: The Disabled American Veterans, Black Mountain, Chapter 12 is inviting the public to attend a Veterans Day Ceremony on Nov. 11. There will be a special performance by the Nevada Opera Theatre Singers.

When: Registration begins at 8 a.m., ride starts at 9 Nov. 10
Where: Mandalay Bay, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South
Cost: $50 per rider in advance
What: Honor Ride is a program benefiting Ride 2 Recovery, a national non-profit working directly with soldiers who have sustained injuries while serving their country.

When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 11
Where: The Mirage, 3400 Las Vegas Blvd. South
What: All active and retired military members will be admitted free on Nov. 11. Family and friends will receive a military discount. Adult admission is $16.95; $11.95 for children ages 4-12; and free for children ages 3 and under.

Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden is home to the White Lions of Timbavati, the Royal White Tigers of Nevada, both Black and Spotted Leopards, as well as heterozygous Golden Tigers that carry the gene for the white coloration while the  Dolphin Habitat serves as home for a family of bottlenose dolphins.

When: 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11
Where: Valley High School, 2839 Burnham Road
Admission: $10 general admission
What: Wind ensemble Desert Winds will present "A Veterans Day Salute" at 7:30 p.m. at Valley High School.


Caesars Entertainment is offering several entertainment offerings either free of charge or at discounted prices in celebration of Veteran's Day. They include:

Military personnel, past and present, may present their government issued military identification cards to the restaurant cashiers to take advantage of the Buffet of Buffet offer. The complimentary passes may be obtained at any Caesars Entertainment Las Vegas buffet on Nov.11, 2012 and are active for 24 hours from the time issued at the following buffets:

Eccentric comic magician, Amazing Johnathan, is offering half-priced tickets on Nov. 9th and 10th.
Caesars Palace
One part vivid imagination, two parts carnival and a shot of old world burlesque mixed with a heavy dash of decadence, "ABSINTHE," is offering $20 off reserved seating with the code ABS20 at the box office or through Ticketmaster.
Comedian George Wallace, known as "the guy who can roll the room over if it's dead” will be offering one free ticket throughout 2012.

"X Burlesque," one of the sexiest shows on the Strip, will offer a two-for-one discount.
The original celebrity tribute spectacular, "Legends in Concert," has an ongoing two-for-one ticket discount.

The longest-running solo play in Broadway history, "Defending the Caveman," will offer two free tickets on Veteran’s Day and has an ongoing two-for-one ticket discount.

The longest-running comedy club in Las Vegas and the first standup comedy club ever created, The Improv, will offer a 20% off discount. Named “Best Strip Headliner” in the Las Vegas Weekly’s 2011 annual Vegas’ best awards, Mac King, is offering two free tickets through Nov. 17th.

The over-the-top production of Frank Marino’s Divas Las Vegas, featuring the world’s best female impersonators performing as some of music’s biggest superstars, has an ongoing half-price ticket offer.

7-Eleven, Nov. 11 -- Free small Slurpee from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Must have ID.

In addition, MGM Resorts International is hosting "Salute To The Troops" for more than 60 wounded warriors for Veterans Day Weekend. The 60 veterans will be treated like high rollers by MGM Resorts, in conjunction with America Airlines and the USO. The annual event is a weekend of relaxation, entertainment and sightseeing for the chosen veterans. The event will take place Nov. 8 through Nov. 12. Read our story.
