Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas firefighters responded to a vacant apartment building fire early Sunday morning.

It happened at 508 West Washington Avenue around 1:40 a.m.

When crews arrived, flames were showing from the second floor of a two-story apartment building.

The building was vacant and boarded up, but the unit where most of the fire was, the front door was open.

Damage was estimated at $20,000.

The building is vacant and does not have utilities connected to it. There was evidence that homeless people were staying in the building. A witness told investigators that people were seen coming and going from the building earlier in the day.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No injuries were reported.

Roads in the area were closed for about an hour while firefighters worked the scene.
