Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Firefighters were called to a fire at a condo complex early Sunday morning.

It happened around 6:15 a.m. on Longshot Drive, near Tropicana Avenue and Boulder Highway.

The building involved has three units. Of the three units, two were unoccupied and one had five adult occupants who were sleeping.

Firefighters knocked on their door to wake up the occupants and escort them to safety. No one was hurt.

The fire had spread slowly from the balcony and sub-floor of the complex to the roof.

Damage is estimated at $40,000.

The American Red Cross was called in to assist the occupants.

Investigators said an improperly discarded cigarette caused the fire.
