Toddler rescued from apartment complex pool
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Two complete strangers came to the rescue of a toddler, who nearly drowned at a local apartment complex pool.
They saw the two-year-old girl floating lifeless in the water and rushed to action.
It happened Sunday afternoon at a complex in the 1900 block of North Walnut Road, near Lake Mead and Lamb Boulevards.
Marcus Elzy jumped in to save the little girl and performed CPR while Heather McLendon called 911. The emergency operator directed them in what to do.
"I jumped in and pulled her out of the water," Marcus says. "Her lips were blue. They told me to keep pumping her chest. I knew I couldn't stop. I had to keep trying. I was so relieved when she finally started coming out of it."
"Thank God he jumped in the water," Heather says. "I was on the phone with the 911 operator. It was so scary. It happened so fast. It was horrible seeing her like that. I didn't think she was going to come out of it. We were all so shaken up."
They were able to get the little girl breathing again by the time paramedics arrived. Although, she was still going in and out of consciousness.
Neighbors say they didn't notice any adults with the toddler. They believe the little girl was with her brothers and sisters at the time.
The little girl was rushed to University Medical Center but her condition is unknown.
