Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Thirty-five years ago, the world lost a rock and roll legend. Elvis Presley was remembered all over Las Vegas yesterday -- from his statue at the LVH to Madam Tussauds. He was also remembered at a local charity which shares a very special connection with the King of Rock 'n' Roll.

In true Elvis fashion, the men and women of Opportunity Village dressed in their best gold-rimmed shades and shaggy sideburns to perform a compilation of Presley's greatest hits. This was all in tribute to one of their most famous celebrity supporters.

"Elvis had the heart, the passion, and the desire to give people with a disability a chance for employment. He was very proud and supportive of Opportunity Village," said Amanda Shipp, Director of Program Services for Opportunity Village.

He did so by wearing a scarf made by an Opportunity Village participant during every one of his performances.

As the story goes, before every scarf was shipped off to Elvis, the maker of the scarf would give it a little kiss. Presley, as a tribute to Opportunity Village, would the kiss the scarf, wipe his brow and  throw it out to an audience member.

The scarves are still a major part of the enrichment program at the organization and so is The King's legacy.

"These kids are not only carrying on his tradition with their dance but also with the scarves that they make. These guys are just talented all the way around and I'm lucky to be surrounded by them," said local Elvis impersonator Jesse Garon.

The scarves are available for purchase at the Opportunity Village thrift store and in gift stores of casinos throughout Las Vegas.
