Teachers planning to protest pink slips today
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Clark County School District is planning on handing out pink slips today.
Right now, it is not known how many people will lose their jobs. It could be as many as 1,000 employees.
The district says layoffs are the only real option since the teachers union refused to give up pay raises and there is a $63 million budget gap.
The district and the union have already been through arbitration so there are rules for any reduction in force.
After voluntary retirements and resignations, teachers with past disciplinary issues will be on the chopping block and then layoffs will be based on seniority.
Teachers are planning a protest for today at 8:30 a.m. It will take place in front of CCSD's administration building on Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard.
