Las Vegas memorials planned for dead Red Rock hiker
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A brother of an avid hiker found dead in March at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation area says a public memorial is scheduled this week in Las Vegas.
Darrell Kirk tells The Associated Press the 5 p.m. Saturday ceremony in a plaza near the Student Union building at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas will mark Ronald Kirk's involvement in the university history program.
It'll also provide a forum to thank rescuers and volunteers who spent several weekends looking for Ronald Kirk after he was reported missing Jan. 22.
Kirk's body was found March 10 after a fall of several hundred feet in rugged terrain at the popular hiking area about 20 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip.
The Clark County coroner ruled the death an accident.
