2nd victim dies after shooting at senior living center
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Clark County coroner's office has verified that 78-year-old Betty Jean Mattox has died from injuries sustained during a shooting last weekend at the Bonanza Pines Senior Living Center.
Betty Jean Mattox and her son, Ron, were shot Saturday, April 7, at Bonanza Pines by Roger T. Foley II.
Ron died at the scene and Betty was hospitalized in critical condition. Betty died Wednesday of her injuries at University Medical Center.
Foley, age 63, called 911 after the shooting and said that he was responsible. He is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center.
Foley is related to the prominent legal family of the same name. That family includes Roger T. Foley and his son Roger D. Foley. The Foley Federal Building on Las Vegas Boulevard is named after the family.
The Clark County district attorney's office has recused itself from prosecuting Foley because a relative works for the office.
The case has been referred to the state attorney general's office.
