County plans major Las Vegas Strip improvements

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- For the last six months, a committee of resort executives, county officials and police officers have met to discuss ways to make the Las Vegas Strip a safer and cleaner place to work and play.

They have now released their recommendations which include uniform style trash cans and news racks and more frequent trash pick-ups.

They also recommended that smut-peddlers be required to pick up their handbills to cut down on litter.

“I think this was an acknowledgment of, we've let things go for too long,” said County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani.

Other suggestions included the use of graffiti-resistant coating on public property and changing sidewalk maintenance times between the hours of 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., when foot traffic is lightest and the most garbage has accumulated.

The commission will now be pursuing a study of pedestrian foot traffic to see where there's too much congestion on the Strip and where there is extra room to implement further changes.
