Neighbors sick of kids going into vacant house near Carey & Christy
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Homes in older neighborhoods are struggling enough to maintain their value. It's even more of a problem when you live near properties that aren't kept up. Neighbors in one community say a once near-million dollar home down the street from them is now in shambles.
"If you check the county records, the last owner of the property paid $950,000 for this house," said Craig Grant.
But you would never guess that by looking at it now. Craig and Tamee Grant drive by the house near Carey and Christy almost every day. They say they're sick of looking at the eyesore it's become.
"It's graffiti-ed I would say every week to week in a half there's new graffiti on the house," said Tamee.
You can see the different color paint on the home and Tamee says that's where the tagging has been covered. In a city where property values have already dropped so much, these homeowners say this isn't helping.
"It's really sad to see it in disrepair and just left unattended," said Craig.
Boards are falling off the windows, a shopping cart and a couch litter the property, and the couple says as time goes by, more trash shows up.
Action News learned according to the County Assessor's website that Deutsche Bank took over this property in 2009. So we called the County's Code Enforcement department.
The county tells us that they have an open case on this property so they couldn't go into too much details.
They say this is the seventh case in five years on this particular property and they say in all the previous cases, the property owners have cleaned it up.
"I don't think they're being held accountable enough," said Tamee.
So we called Deutsche Bank. They say the servicer of the loan, Chase, is responsible for maintaining the property.
They got in touch with Chase who called us and said they're going to send someone out there to secure it. But Craig has a solution he says the bank should consider.
"Fence it off of some sort maybe even have some kind of roaming security out here," said Craig.
The County has given Deutsche Bank a deadline of March 26 to clean up the property.
As to what specific actions they'll take after that, they couldn't say. We know the county can't talk specifics but generally speaking, Code Enforcement does board up properties and then places a lien against the property for the cost to do so. We'll have to wait and see what happens to that house.
We're going to keep in touch with them, the Grant's, Deutsche and Chase bank to see what happens.
