Centennial Hills stunned by skate park shooting
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - Just hours after a shooting at a local skate park, police say they've nabbed those who opened fire.
The suspected gunmen targeted five teenagers over the course of their crime spree. Officers say they caught up with the two suspects after the pair went around Centennial Hills robbing the teens at gunpoint, before shooting one of their victims in the neck at a local skate park.
Officers searched the area for two Hispanic males after the pair allegedly robbed a 16-year old girl and her friend at gunpoint; taking her phone, wallet and skateboard, before heading over to the Mountain Ridge Skate Park, where they reportedly robbed another teenage boy and his two friends before shooting him in the neck.
“I have lived on this side of town for about five months now, and those are the first sirens I've ever heard,” said Ross Ketchum, of the usually quiet Centennial Hills neighborhood.
Metro caught up with the two suspects they say are responsible, 21-year old Jerry Santistevan, and a teenage boy whose name is being withheld because of his age.
Local residents were shocked to hear that the tranquil skate park could play host to some very violent crimes.
“I always thought that we were really safe,” said Erica Vuksanovic. “I come by myself all the time and I have never heard of a problem.”
Both of those suspects are being charged with multiple felonies, including robbery with a deadly weapon and attempted murder.
The 17-year old shooting victim is said to be recovering at University Medical Center.
