U.S. Sen. Santorum gets Nevada caucus late fee
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum must pay a $1,000 fine to participate in the Nevada GOP presidential caucuses because he has yet to pay his $10,000 registration fee.
Nevada GOP executive director David Gallagher told The Associated Press that Santorum's campaign was informed Thursday morning that it had until Monday to pay the fine and $1,000 toward his registration fee.
Santorum's campaign must pay the remaining $9,000 by Dec. 16 if he wants to participate in the Nevada caucuses.
All of the other major presidential candidates, including Herman Cain, paid the full fee on time. Cain has since suspended his campaign, but will not receive a refund.
Nevada's fifth-in-the-nation Republican nomination contest is scheduled for Feb. 4.
