'Dr. Reefer' gets federal prison in Las Vegas pot case
Las Vegas, NV (AP) -- A Las Vegas man who went by the name "Dr. Reefer" has been sentenced to 41 months in prison after pleading guilty to selling marijuana through a family-run dispensary.
U.S. District Court Judge Philip Pro sentenced 39-year-old Pierre Werner on Monday. He also was ordered to spend three years on supervised release and pay more than $27,000 in restitution.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Werner told a judge he's still a believer in medical marijuana, although he won't be participating in pro-marijuana campaigns because it's not "worth it."
Federal authorities charged 15 people with selling marijuana in Las Vegas in January. Werner's 60-year-old mother and 22-year-old brother have already been sentenced in the case.
Growing medical marijuana for personal use is legal in Nevada, but selling it is illegal.
