When it came to making bank in 2013, two country superstars topped the list of musicians ranked by Billboard for their Top 40 Money Makers survey.
With a hefty $39 million, Taylor Swift sits at the top spot, thanks in large part to the phenomenal success of her Red tour. In second place is Kenny Chesney, thanks to his stadium tour dates which have helped him sell more than one million tickets for each of the last 10 tours he's done. Both Kenny and Taylor are also strong in physical and digital sales, but the No. 8 act on the list, Luke Bryan, and No. 27 overall, Blake Shelton, sold more albums than Taylor last year, since she did not have a new release in 2013.
Also among the top money makers, Jason Aldean (No. 14), George Strait (No. 15), Zac Brown Band (No. 30), Rascal Flatts (No. 34), Miranda Lambert (No. 36), Tim McGraw (No. 38) and Carrie Underwood (No. 40).
According to Billboard, "The data used to compile Money Makers was supplied by Nielsen SoundScan, Nielsen BDS and Billboard Boxscore. Artists are ranked by U.S. earnings, calculated from touring, recorded music sales, publishing royalties and revenue from digital music and video streaming. Due to a lack of data, revenue from sponsorship, merchandising and synchronization isn't included. (See more details here.)
